The scrlet shrimp is a decapod crustacean.
It has a very intense and bright red color, stronger on the head than on the tail. It has a large head, always larger than the body, in which a large needle is placed. This has a very intense and appreciated flavor. It has a smooth textured shell.
It lives mainly in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean, on sandy and mud bottoms at a depth of up to 2000m.
It is usually fished throughout the year and the most common way is through bottom trawling techniques.
